Gold Breaks 4,300: The Safe-Haven Bid Returns in Force

August 12, 2026 · Gold News · By Stock Golden Expert

4,300 has fallen — and gold’s recovery is now a trend.

The metal pushed through the psychological barrier this week, trading as high as 4,360 before settling near 4,350. From the June 30 low of 3,955, gold has rallied 10% in six weeks, and the character of the buying has changed: this is no longer short-covering, but fresh allocation, visible in ETF inflows that have now run positive for three consecutive weeks.

The three engines of the rally

Engine one: dollar fatigue. The greenback’s broad advance has stalled completely — EUR/USD is back above 1.1550 and the dollar index has gone nowhere for a month. Gold and the dollar remain mirror images, and the mirror currently reflects a softer greenback. Engine two: real yields, which have rolled over at last, cutting the metal’s opportunity cost. Engine three: the calendar — August’s thin liquidity amplifies flows, and the flows are currently pointing one way.

What the technicians see

4,578 is the gate — the June lower high that separates “correction over” from “new bull leg.” A weekly close above it targets 4,783 and potentially a retest of the April record at 4,918. Below, support layers at 4,215 and 4,074 define the range’s floor, with 3,955 still the line that must never break.

The honest caveat

Gold rallies in August have a habit of reversing in September, when liquidity returns and the Fed re-enters the frame. The rally is real, the drivers are legitimate — but seasonality is a headwind arriving on schedule. Traders should honor the momentum; investors should remember what month it is.
