Crypto Summer Rally: Bitcoin Presses Toward $70,000
The crypto recovery is accelerating.
Bitcoin has climbed through the $66,000–$68,000 zone this week and is pressing against the $70,000 handle — a level that has capped every rally since May. From the July 1 low of $57,748, the token is up nearly 20%, and the rally’s internals keep improving: spot volume leading derivatives, ETF inflows accelerating, and the fear-and-greed index migrating from “fear” to “neutral” without the froth that marked May’s top.
Why $70,500 matters
It’s the May breakdown pivot — the shelf that gave way in mid-May and turned support into resistance. Reclaiming it on a closing basis would repair the intermediate trend and open a run at $74,000 and beyond. Failing there for a fourth time would confirm the ceiling and likely send the market back to test $64,000.
The setup favors the bulls, with caveats. The leverage reset is real, the holder base has rotated long-term, and the macro tailwind (stalled dollar, firm equities, thin August liquidity) is blowing the right way. Against that: September is crypto’s worst month statistically, and one macro shock resets everything.
Altcoin watch
The recovery remains bitcoin-led; the altcoin indices are up barely half of BTC’s August gain. That’s actually healthy — sustainable recoveries start with BTC dominance rising and broaden later. If altcoins start outperforming aggressively now, be suspicious: that’s speculation returning before the foundation is set.
The trade: longs from lower levels keep trailing. Fresh entries should wait for either the $70,500 reclaim or a deep dip toward $64,000. Chasing the middle of a 20% rally is how summer gains become September regrets.
