Weekend Crypto Watch: Bitcoin Bounces Off $80,000

Weekend crypto watch, from the year’s most interesting chart.
Bitcoin dipped to $80,337 on Friday — testing the big round number for the first time since the September breakout — and bounced hard, trading back near $82,500 by Saturday morning. The round-trip from Monday’s local highs near $87,100 has now retraced almost exactly 50% of September’s rally, and Friday’s defense of $80,000 was, technically, exactly what bulls needed to see.
Why the bounce matters
$82,800 — May’s old ceiling — was retested this week and held as support for the first time. That conversion, four months in the making, is the single most important technical event in crypto this quarter. If it continues to hold, the September breakout is validated and the path to the all-time high zone re-opens. If Friday’s bounce fails and $80,000 breaks with authority, the breakout starts looking like a bull trap, with $77,400 and $74,000 below.
What’s driving the chop
The macro tape: a runaway dollar (EUR/USD at 1.116, the year’s weakest euro) is applying pressure to every risk asset, and crypto — highest beta on the board — feels it first. October’s first week also brought profit-taking from September’s winners, natural and healthy after a 38% run.
Weekend levels: support $80,000, then $77,400; resistance $84,800, then $87,100. The market has spent a quarter building credibility above $82,800. This weekend’s job is to keep it.
